Side A: Apollo and Artemis slay the sons and daughters of the boastful queen Niobe with their arrows. The god wears a wreath of laurel upon his head, and the goddess a sakkos scarf. Both draw bows and wear quivers slung across their shoulders.
Side B: Heracles wearing a laurel wreath with Athena and the Argonauts.
On this krater, the figures are disposed on several levels, ad they actively interact with their setting. The Niobid Painter also drew his face in a three-quarter view, something that even Euphronios and Euthymides had not attempted.
