| NOTES | The last decisive battle in the Persian Wars was fought in 460 BC at the estuary of the River Eurymedon in present-day Turkey. The total victory of the Greeks is depicted in brutal and humiliating terms. Here, a sexually aroused Athenian, in heroic nudity, is about to rape a helpless Persian captive depicted on the other side. The Persian is bent forward, in the position of a pathicus, i.e. the man who is being penetrated during a homosexual intercourse. On the vase is written: "My name is Eurymedon. I am getting screwed." |
