| NOTES | Roman copy after an original by Lysippos of Sicyone. In spite of the numerous restorations to which it has been subjected, this Roman statue, variously identified over the centuries, undoubtedly conserves one of the compositions of the sculptor Lysippos. The bronze original represented the god with a caduceus in the left hand, and untying his sandal with the right. Captured instantaneously, the muscular form in an elongated canon thrusts out in all directions of space, thus offering several angles of view. |
